5 basic pieces every wardrobe should contain
One of the most common issues I see in client’s wardrobes is an abundance of patterned, glitzy pieces and a lack of good foundation pieces, the basics that are the building blocks of a great wardrobe.
These basic items might not be the ones you're jumping up and down with excitement to buy, but I guarantee they're the ones that you wear most in your wardrobe. I'm talking about pieces like white T-shirts and straight-leg jeans, the basics that anchor everyday outfits. If you open your wardrobe and feel like you have “nothing to wear” check first and see if you have the right basics before you get bedazzled.
These are items that you should always have on hand and they should be the best fit you can find. They are also the items you should replace if they are worn out to the point that they’re not functional anymore (e.g., they have holes, lose their shape or have permanent stains).
Here are the five basics pieces you should always have in your wardrobe;
TSHIRTS
T-shirts are like a second skin for most people, and they're likely to be the basis your best outfits from winter through to summer. Whether worn under a blazer, leather jacket, or on its own, a good T-shirt is an absolute staple in every stylish person's wardrobe.
BLAZERS
Blazers are the easiest way to add polish to any outfit. You can throw them on over any t-shirt, dress, shirt or knit and instantly look elevated.
While certain blazer styles can change in popularity, from boyfriend, oversized, cropped or coloured, a well-fitted tailored blazer never goes out of style.
WHITE BUTTON-DOWN SHIRT
A white button-down shirt is the epitome of classic style. Whether worn with jeans, pants, shorts, or skirts, a white button-down is timeless elegance. Worn untucked, French-tuck, tied in a knot at the front or fully tucked in, a white button down will make you look styled and well put together.
WHITE TRAINERS
If there's one shoe style that is versatile, comfortable and classic, it's white trainers. You can make them feel sporty or sophisticated, they can be worn with everything from suits to dresses and will give your outfit a fresh and youthful look.
JEANS
Much like blazers, popular jean styles vary depending on the season. A mid-rise, mid-blue slim leg and a black pair of skinny jeans will always be in style. Timeless classics, these can be paired with any type of shoes from boots to heels and flats and of course white trainers. Jeans can be dressed up or down and a well-fitting pair of jeans looks stylish on any body shape.
